WHY SICHUAN
Sustainable Innovation
There are 134 institutions of higher learning in Sichuan with national key universities such as Sichuan University and University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. Among them, 53 are undergraduate universities, two are listed in Project 985, Project 211 and Double First-Class, and three are listed in Project 211. Fourteen disciplines from eight universities were selected in the second round of building first-class disciplines, ranking 10th in the number of disciplines selected among provinces and cities in China.
Innovation Platform
Sichuan is a major province with science and technology resources and the only national technical standard innovation base in China, with 16 state key laboratories and 134 provincial-level ones, 16 national engineering technology research centers and 375 provincial-level ones, 22 international science and technology cooperation bases of national level and 59 provincial-level ones. In 2021, Western (Chengdu) Science City, Tianfu Xinglonghu Laboratory, Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory and National Sichuan-Tibet Railway Technology Innovation Center were put into operation. A total of 144 demonstration projects for the transfer and commercialization of scientific and technological achievements and projects for innovative products have been carried out, and 27 scientific and technological achievements have won national science and technology awards. The province has invested more than 100 billion yuan in research and development.
Human Resource
By the end of 2021, in Sichuan there had been 65 academicians (66 people) from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the total number of professional and technical personnel in the province had reached 3.83 million, including 518,000 with senior titles. The total number of skilled professionals had reached 10.56 million, of whom 2.27 million were highly skilled. There were more than 500,000 college graduates in 2021, of whom 63.94% intended to find jobs directly after graduation and 83.38% intended to find jobs in Sichuan.
