[Foreign Investment in Sichuan] South Korean Livestock Giant Sunjin Group Optimistic about Sichuan's Breeding Market

Sunjin Chengdu Feed Company is subordinate to Korea Sunjin Group that was founded in 1973. After more than 40 years of development, Korea Sunjin Group has become a professional livestock enterprise in the fields of feed, breeding, meat processing and circulation in Korea.

In 2006, Korea Sunjin Group invested USD 10.1 million to establish Sunjin Chengdu Feed Company as its first professional feed production and sales enterprise built in China. Lian Dongmin, General Manager of Sunjin Chengdu Feed Company, said, "Policies, talents and transportation are the three main elements considered for the investment and building of plants."

As a large animal husbandry province, Sichuan has also long been the largest pig breeding province in China, a large pork consumption province and the main sales area. It is praised for "Sichuan pigs making China stable". Pig breeding not only promotes the all-round development of Sichuan's animal husbandry, but also brings broad development prospects to Sunjin Chengdu Feed Company.

In Sunjin Chengdu Feed Company, one would see two fully automated production lines of pig feed and ruminant feed operating in an orderly manner under the command of the central control room. It is reported that these two production lines produce four varieties of products: pig feed, beef cattle feed, cow feed and sheep feed, with an annual production of 50,000 tons of livestock feed and a sales volume of more than CNY 200 million.

In order to further expand the enterprise's market share, enhance its service ability and product competitiveness, Sunjin Chengdu Feed Company will focus on the breeding industry after the development of feed business reaching stability. In 2018, the company planned and built a 30,000-pig farm in Shifang, Deyang City, one step closer to modern breeding industry from a single feed producer.

"The simultaneous development of pig breeding and feed business have more potential. On the one hand, Korean Sunjin Group can officially introduce its more than 40 years' modern breeding technology and management mode into Sichuan; on the other hand, the breeding experience and R & D experience of the company bring benefits to feed processing and help offer better  services to the customers," Lian Dongmin said. With the continuous growth of output, consumption and per capita consumption of China's cattle industry in recent years, the development potential of cattle feed also has also been going upward. At present, the company is also conducting research on the site selection of a 6,000-cattle farm.

Looking to the future, Lian Dongmin said confidently, "We are very optimistic about the breeding market in Sichuan. By 2025, the annual feed production of the company is expected to reach 120,000 tons, the 30,000-pig farm and 6,000-cattle farm will be put into use, so as to promote the sound development of feed processing and breeding business."
