Recently, researchers from Heishui River Natural Reserve Area of Dayi County found the traces of two snow leopards by using infrared cameras. Those cameras established at Sandaoping and Lanbandeng in the reserve recorded the appearance of snow leopards for 3 times. According to the video taken on March 23, at an altitude of about 3,500 meters a snow leopard showed itself in front of the camera whose pewter eyes were visible. Then this snow leopard touched the camera with its face and left several minutes later.

　　Officials from Wildlife Conversation Station of Forestry Department of Sichuan Province introduced that the snow leopard, known as Snow King and enlisted in first level of national protected animals, mainly lived in plateau mountain area in middle and south Asia. Currently there were no more than 1,500 snow leopards in total in Sichuan. The snow leopard belonged to felidae family. Nocturnal, they were renowned as mountain hermits. “It appeared at such a place near Chengdu, indicating that local ecosystem has got better protection.” He also believed that the period from January to March was their estrus and the snow leopard appearing in the video was trying to find a mate.
